Abstract

Majority of people believe that wealth and a high earning job can bring about happiness and satisfaction in their lives. Happiness and the impact of economic capital on happiness are much more serious and important for the youth whose age group has the highest population and are the future capital of the society.
The present paper focuses on the relationship between economic capital and happiness of the youth of the city of Babolsar. A sample of 380 young people between 15 to 29 of age was collected from the city through random sampling method. The findings of multivariable analysis show that there is no significant relationship between gender, marriage and education with happiness. There is a significant relationship between economic capital and employment with happiness, but these variables explain only seven percent of the reasons for happiness. Hence, contrary to the public conception, the degree of impact of economic capital on happiness is low. The explanation may be that money alone cannot bring about happiness. Researchers maintain that first of all people very quickly get used to their own income level and secondly they compare their own income and properties with others. Thirdly, human beings have some needs that cannot be fulfilled with money and are not purchasable.
