Abstract

Religious research is one of the most outstanding branches of humanities. One of the salient features of this discipline is studies about religiosity. Religious research has a long history. Given the dominant culture in Iran specially in the post-revolution period, a large number of religious studies have been conducted in this field. Since Islam constitutes the most fundamental part of Iranian culture, such studies are very important in different branches of the system. Hence, the accuracy of these studies is of high priority. Since the principles and rules of many religious studies in Iran are influenced by the Western precedence and models, their revision, restudy and judgment is an undeniable necessity. Through giving some examples of radical differences between Christianity and Judaism with Islam, the present paper argues that without paying due attention to Islamic contents, the possibility of misjudgment about religiosity and religious studies will be very high.
The main objective of the present paper is to draw attentions towards inferring  the bases of religiosity from Islam itself. Some aspects of religiosity in Islam, which are not compatible with Western religious studies, have been mentioned to clarify the issue. Consequently, in measurement of religiosity one should not ignore the fundamental differences that exist between religions. In order to have a proper, right and valid measurement of religiosity and religious studies, it is necessary to pay attention to the fact that Islam covers all aspects of life. Hence, the criteria and measures of religiosity should be determined by religion and with the same grades and degrees that religion itself assign to them.
