Different Types of Religiosity and Work Ethics; Case Study of Employees of Zanjan University

Abstract

Work ethics is one of the most important cultural factors of development. The present paper is an attempt to study the degree of work ethics in relation with various types of religiosity. The main question of this research is: is there any relationship between various kinds of religiosity and degree of work ethics in the social context of Iran? The statistical population of this research includes the employees of Zanjan University. The sample was collected through classified sampling method constituting 259 employees. Theories of Weber and John Shepherd were used for justification of relationship between various types of religiosity and the degree of work ethics. The findings of the paper indicate that overall the degree of work ethics of employees was average and high. There is a significant relationship between various types of religiosity and degree of work ethics of employees. Regarding the four aspects of work ethics, there are major differences between modernists and radical Islamists with other types. The degree of work ethics of the said two groups of believers is more than those of other two groups. Also, regression analysis results indicate that Islamic modernism and radical Islamism have the highest impacts on work ethics.
