Abstract

One of the fundamental issues in analysis of various viewpoints about religious science is explanation of a suitable methodology for its realization. The present paper is an attempt to explain the methodology of Attas’ religious (Islamic) science in the light of the principles of his Islamic ontology, epistemology and anthropology. The methodology of realization of Attas’ Islamic science includes a synthetic method (individual inferential, intuitive, rational and empirical), Islamization of language and application of interpretative and hermeneutical methods in studying natural and human phenomena. The findings of the present paper indicate that Attas’ synthetic method suffers from some ambiguities. Also, although the Islamization of language plays an effective role in realization of Islamic sciences, laying disproportionate emphasis on it would lead to relativism. On the other hand, interpretative and hermeneutical methods in studying the nature are suitable for philosophical and mystical issues, while in order to produce scientific knowledge, one should extract and explain methods and techniques that are compatible with hermeneutical methods. The required data for this research was collected through library method and studied through philosophical analysis.
